Music Term 1 Week 5

Year 2 and Year 3 Compulsory Music Program

When boys are in Year 3, the Cranbrook Junior School Compulsory Instrumental Programs continues from the program commenced the year before.

Those boys who are having private lessons on their string instruments form a Year 3 String Orchestra, under the direction of Mr Martyn Hentschel.

Boys who are not already learning a string instrument select and learn a woodwind, brass or percussion instrument. Students learn in small groups with a specialised tutor. Each boy expressed preferences for various instruments and tried them out at the beginning of the term. Taking into consideration the preference and the physical suitability of the instrument, instruments have been distributed to boys, so they can learn this instrument for a year.  This is under the direction of Mr Christopher Hayles.

As in Year 2, boys work towards a Year 3 Band performance at the end of the year. Hopefully, this will be the beginning of a journey on their new instrument, and they will start private lessons.
