Year 2 and Year 3 Instrumental Open Rehearsals

Last week, our Music Department invited Year 2 and Year 3 parents into an open rehearsal to listen and to watch our students in the early days of learning an instrument.

The boys are fortunate to have skilled tutors starting them on strings in Year 2 and strings, woodwind, brass and percussion in Year 3. Parents were able to see how the boys assemble their instruments, the techniques of playing and also learn about the specific qualities of each instrument. The Year 3 boys had the opportunity to play together in large ensembles under the direction of Mr Christopher Hayles and Ms Heloise Meisel.

We are delighted to be able to offer this program, as the link between learning an instrument and higher numeracy and literacy learning has been well documented. We would encourage students to consider learning these instruments individually in order to make the most of this opportunity.
