Message from Michele Marquet, Acting Head of School

Dear P-Y6 Parents and Carers,

We hope you have had an enjoyable and restful break before we start another busy term. We look forward to welcoming all our students (P-6) and their families back to school next week on Tuesday, 23 July 2024. We particularly welcome the following students and their families: Ollie McGee and Jack Turnbull-Brown into Year 5 and Sebastian Spohr and Mason Chen into Year 1.

Our Y3-Y6 Athletics Carnival was held late last term and we had a wonderful day. Please follow this link to see some beautiful photos of the event.

We hold our annual Founders’ Day Service for K-Y6 next Wednesday, 24 July at 1.45pm. Parents are welcome to join us.

This term, we will hold our annual Junior School play, ‘Stuart Little’ in the Packer Theatre at the Senior School. There are three evening performances: Monday, 9 September; Tuesday, 10 September and Wednesday, 11 September and tickets will be available to purchase online soon. All families across P-Y6 are welcome to attend.

As winter gets fully underway, and influenza cases rise, a reminder that if your child is unwell, they should not be at school. Please note:

  • 24 hours should have passed after a child has vomited before they return to school;
  • If your child has a temperature, they should not be at school and they should not return until 24 hours has passed.

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)
Please follow this link to view the notice explaining the purpose and process for this compulsory governmental data collection that occurs in August this year.

Some key reminders for K-Y6 in Term 3 include:

  • Students in K-6 need to be dressed in full winter uniform.
  • Please ensure your son has had a haircut and he also has his school hat for the first day. We remind parents that the students’ hair length should not fall below the top of their collar.
  • Optional Co-Curricular activities recommence from the first day of term, Tuesday, 23 July 2024.
  • After School Sports training for winter teams (Years 3 – 6) recommences from the first day of term too, Tuesday, 23 July 2024.
  • Round 8 of Winter Sport (Years 3 – 6) commences on the first Saturday of term (27 July).

I thank Mr Grant Andrews for his steady and careful oversight of the Junior School during Term 2. This term, Mrs Genet Erickson Adam, Deputy Head – Curriculum P-Y6, will be Acting Head of Junior School.

During the first few weeks of the term, I will be taking a short period of planned long-service leave, returning to school in early August. During the time I am away, our Executive team will be continuing in their current roles to ensure the smooth operation of the Senior and Junior Schools and our Pre-schools.

To facilitate the continuation of progress on the current external review process and engagement with regulators, Mr Stuart Meade will be Acting in the role of Head of Cranbrook School. A highly experienced and capable Head, Stuart is very familiar with our School having previously held the role of Deputy Headmaster. When he left Cranbrook at the end of 2002, Stuart was appointed the Headmaster of Hale School, an independent, Anglican day and boarding school for boys, in Western Australia and more recently, the Principal at Matthew Flinders Anglican College, an independent Anglican co-educational primary and secondary day school, in Queensland. His presence will mean that our Executive team across the School will be fully available as usual for all our students, staff and the Cranbrook community.
