Message from Michele Marquet
Dear P-Y6 Parents
In the Junior School, we take the importance of teaching Mathematics exceptionally seriously. In 2022, we have been engaged in a year-long Numeracy Project with the Association of Independent Schools (AIS). We want to empower every teacher of Mathematics, K-Y6, to understand better how to teach this essential subject area, so our Junior School students master the foundational skills necessary for more complex mathematical learning; come to appreciate the breadth and beauty of using Mathematics to explain our world; and to see the power of Mathematics to help us solve larger, longer-term global problems.
We are excited by the opportunity to invite all our Junior School parents to a special session about how children learn Mathematics during the primary years and how parents can support that learning. This workshop is being conducted by our AIS Mathematics Consultant, Henrietta Miller, and then parents will be able to visit their son’s classroom to share in some of their learning in the areas of Science or Mathematics. This valuable event will be taking place on Tuesday, 16 August at 8:30am – 10:30am. We look forward to seeing many of our parents join us on this day.
After 14 years of dedicated service at Cranbrook, next week is Eric Gailloux’s last week teaching French to our students in the Junior School. We thank him for all he has done to help our students learn French across P-Y6. Eric is moving with his partner to South Australia and we wish them both great happiness, good health and joy in the years ahead. We welcome Emmanuel Chaveroux to the Junior School as our new French Teacher working with Madame Garcia-Oria. Emmanuel is a highly experienced, passionate educator, having taught at International Grammar and Newington College.
Kind wishes,
Michele Marquet
