Dear Parents,

We have had a busy week after a weather-perfect and well-attended Mother’s Day last Friday. Please enjoy the photo gallery.

We also can share some of the photos of the recent JS Art Camp at Bundanon which was a superb opportunity for the boys selected to attend to expand their skills and talents in creating art. Please enjoy this photo gallery as well.

Y5 – Y6 da Vinci Day with Ascham
Yesterday, for the fifth time, we welcomed around 160 Year 5 and Year 6 Ascham students to our da Vinci day. Under the theme, ‘Unity’, teams competed in several discipline areas including: Ideation, Codebreaking, Mathematics, Creative Producers, Engineering, Art/Poetry, General Knowledge and English. This day was a terrific opportunity for the young participants to strengthen curiosity, foster problem-solving strategies and resilience, as well as utilise creative and collaborative skills, working together in teams.

If we are going to develop the right mindset to help our students to be ready to enter the global world, they must have opportunities to practise collaborative and creative problem-solving skills in broader contexts. Experiences like da Vinci are one of many ways the Junior School is looking to embed these skills and to help our boys be ‘new world-ready’. I thank the staff from both schools, particularly Mrs Cellini, Mr Baker, Mrs Brodie, Miss Boniface, Mr Botto, Mr Cohen, Ms Tedeschi and the Year 5 and Year 6 Teaching Teams who worked with passion to ensure the day was a success for all involved.

We have several different events for students and families in the weeks ahead too.

Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea Events for Parents and Students

You may have read about ‘Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea’ Parent Event being held on Friday, 26 May from 8am at the Empire Lounge (Lyne Park). Please join other parents for a morning coffee and morning tea and participate in the auction to raise money for the Cancer Council. See the message in News and Reminders from the organisers.

On this same day, we are inviting all the JS students to wear to school one of their father’s or older male friend’s ties, as well as bring a picnic rug and, weather permitting, we will hold a K-6 Picnic Rug recess on Dangar. We invite the students to bring in a gold coin on this day to contribute to the Junior School’s donation to the Cancer Council.

Kind wishes,

Michele Marquet
