Little League Sports Report Round 7
Rugby Round 7
6A Rugby – Cranbrook 33 defeated St Patrick 7
Cranbrook once again played a terrific game of rugby early on Saturday Morning. The boys were looking to finish off this term of rugby strong and made that obvious from the beginning. Cranbrook showed their physicality through some big tackles made by Theo W. and during the 2nd half the boys were excellent around the ruck which was led by Alfie T. Who helped us maintain a lead throughout the game. The boys look forward to a nice break and look to maintain this momentum into next term.
6B Rugby – Cranbrook 0 defeated by Waverley 29
It was a tough day in the office for the Cranbrook U12s at Queens Park. Waverley came out with a lot of size and pace, and we did well to match their physicality, however a few missed tackles here and there lead to some runaway tries for Waverley’s bigger players. Hugo H had a strong game at 10 and was a great leader in and around the ruck with strong breakdown work. Monte S and Vinnie B had some huge runs with the other forwards helping them as support runners. Cranbrook did well to keep their heads up throughout the game and play with drive and tenacity.
5A Rugby – Cranbrook 10 defeated by Shore 40
The 5As had a tough day at the office as they went down to a decent Shore outfit. A positional switch saw Oliver K lining up at flyhalf and he bossed the early proceedings, directing play in both attack and defence. Cranbrook’s positive start led them to the first score, some well worked passing leading to a score in the corner. Unfortunately, this was as good as it got for the boys as some leaky defensive work led them to concede multiple tries. The boys will be disappointed that they did not bring their tackle technique work from training into this fixture. They will look to make amends next Term.
5B Rugby – Cranbrook 29 defeated Shore 26
The 5Bs lined up against Shore last weekend to round out a tough term of fixtures. Cranbrook got off to a flyer with the boys executing the game plan perfectly, a silky backline move seeing the ball land in the hands of Heath C-G. The winger stepped multiple defenders before going in for a try. Despite the good start, Shore came roaring back, scoring 3 tries in a row. The second half saw Davy A and Aidan M each crossing for a try, before perhaps the moment of the season from Emile G as a 50-metre run saw him powering over under the posts. This completed the comeback with Cranbrook winning 29- 26.
4A Rugby – Cranbrook 36 defeated St Patrick 14
The Cranbrook Year 4A team began their fixture against St Pats on the front foot, with barging runs from Henry C.S and Hughie W allowing speedsters Sebastian D and Oscar L to score tries on the edge. Throughout the second half, strong defence from Spike T and Charlie R gave Cranbrook plenty of turnover ball, helping the boys extend the lead to 36-14.
4 7s Rugby – Cranbrook defeated Scots and Grammar
On Saturday, the Year 4 Koola Park 7s squad scored two great wins in the final games of Term 2. Cranbrook played with an intensity that their opponents, both Scots and Sydney Grammar, struggled to keep up with. The boys demonstrated excellent sportsmanship throughout these games, feeding off the success of their teammates. Their ability to work together as a team helped them to play their best rugby to date.
3Red 7s – Cranbrook defeated Mosman Prep & Scots
For Cranbrook U9 Red’s final fixture of Term 2, the boys took on previous opponents Mosman Prep and Scots. Our first fixture against Mosman, the boys conceded a try early into the game due to a defensive lapse, however attacking brilliance from Jasper M down the left touch line, and some dazzling footwork chasing our own kick off saw Cranbrook going into half time 2 tries each. The boys managed to step up in defence in the second half to hold the Mosman side out, granting them a 5-3 win in the end.
Our second fixture saw the boys take on regular opponents Scots in what was sure to be a tough match. Once again, Scots started strongly allowing them to put some points on Cranbrook early, taking a 3-2 lead into halftime. However, a testament to the boys’ constant focus on defence at training as they showed their strongest performance against a talented opposition in the second half. William S. and Jasper M. scored multiple tries, and James C. and Oliver S. both provided strong defensive efforts.
It has been a pleasure to coach these boys during their first term of rugby at Cranbrook, their attitude and enjoyment for their rugby is admirable, and I wish them all the best for the rest of their season.
3White 7s – Cranbrook defeated Kings and were defeated by Scots
After the long weekend and a great Friday training session the U9 White team came ready to play. Their effort could not be faulted against a very well drilled Scots side. Some great tackling and runs from the boys were to be admired. At the end of the day, Scots got the better of the boys.
The next game saw the boys play an undermanned Kings team. A special mention to Tom S for joining the Kings team for the second half. Although undermanned, the Kings boys gave Cranbrook a run for their money but thanks to some great defence and passing to set up a brilliant team try, the boys from Cranbrook got the win in an extremely close encounter. We will work on passing to space and our tackle technique during training this week.
3Blue 7s – Cranbrook defeated Scots and defeated by Scots
U9 Blue team had a great day out at Koola Park starting with a 9-1 win over Scots. There was some great running footy and passing from the boys. However, the win may have got the best of them in the second game going down to another Scots team 2 tries to 3. Great to end first half of the season with some dominant performances over the last few weeks and I am very excited to coach the boys again in the second half of the season. Thank you to the parents for driving the boys out so early in the morning. Looking forward to Term 3.

The 6As faced Newington College this weekend and had a 2-2 draw. The team had a strong start which they managed to maintain throughout the game. Max M put in an amazing effort, terrorising the Newington defense. The team worked well together to play some great football.
6B Football – Cranbrook 0 defeated by Newington Wyvern 4
The 6Bs had another tough game against Newington. The boys worked extremely hard despite not having any subs. Alex was a great leader in the midfield whilst Lachie put in a brave effort up front. Well done boys!

The 12Cs put in the performance of the season against a strong Newington side. From the start the boys were firing with excellent skills and running by Xavier. Jesse was also a rock in defense! Well done boys, keep up the good work!
5A Football – Cranbrook 0 drew with Grammar St Ives 0
This weekend’s game was a very tight affair, however the team performed brilliantly. The opposition put on a block defence and made it very difficult for Cranbrook to break through. We created 3 clear chances and brilliant goal keeping. In the game our boys kept going all the way and standout Eamonn R almost scored.
5B Football – Cranbrook 1 defeated Grammar St Ives 0
The 5 Bs won their second game of the season in a thrilling battle against Grammar St. Ives. Slide tackles and tough one on one duals added to the drama between the two sides, with Nico P’s goal eventually separating the two teams. Michael M and Jack B were key players and leaders, especially when it came to dropping back and defending. Miles M was our most threatening outlet, nearly allowing Rahul W to get off the mark for the season. We look forward to seeing the boys come into next semester with confidence.
5C Football – Cranbrook 0 defeated by Grammar St Ives 2
Year 5cs took on Grammar St. Ives for the final round of Semester 2. A competitive battle between the two sides lead to an entertaining 40 minutes of soccer with Cranbrook having some good chances to score. Unfortunately, Grammar performed clinically and walked away with the three points. Man of the match was awarded to Harry R after displaying courageous slide tackles. It was great to see Raffy S committing to both attacking and defensive duties. Julian was excellent as a wing back. The boys put in their display of the season, and they should hold their heads high going into next semester.
4A Football – Cranbrook 1 drew with The Kings School 1
The Cranbrook 4As headed to the expansive The King’s School to show their footballing talent in Sydney’s west. Goals were few and far between in a 1-1 draw, despite a dominating performance in the midfield led by the gritty and skilful display of Leonardo B. Alexander T showed his value as captain of the side with a performance worth of any young leader in the defensive line. It was Ryan H, however, who took man of the match, causing mischief down the left wing, breaking up play and creating opportunities throughout the match. The 4As will look to get back to winning ways after the holidays, their talent and determination steppingstones for their further footballing development and inevitable winning ways.
4B Football – Cranbrook 2 drew with The Kings School 2
Like the 4As, the Cranbrook 4Bs showed grit and determination against The King’s School this weekend, registering a 2-2 draw and showing the signs of footballing domination of which, they are capable. Jacob B acted as a marksman, leading the frontline and scoring both of the team’s goals in style. Ashton D broke up play in midfield and drove the team forward on attack, showing signs that he is developing into a talented and intelligent footballer. Slotting in at centre back, Felix S (Van Dijk) stole the show slotting in at centre back with commanding display of tackling, awareness and footballing sensibilities. Ziggy D showed his versatility at right wing back, picking up the position and a spatial awareness beyond his age in a rapid time frame. Just like the 4As, wins and footballing development are on the cards for the 4Bs after the holidays.
4C Football – Cranbrook 4 defeated The Kings School 0
The Cranbrook 4Cs put in a dominant performance against The King’s on Saturday morning. Goals from Sebastian F, Matthew Z and Austin M capped off a great team performance. A special shoutout must go out to Otto Y and Sebastian F who both stepped up and each played a half in as goalkeepers. Looking forward to seeing the progress of this team after their well-deserved holidays.
4D Football – Cranbrook 7 defeated The Kings School 1
The Cranbrook 4Ds blew the opposition off the park, showing great tenacity and teamwork throughout against The King’s at Price Field 5. The boys scored early through Jackson S, and did not look back, piling on the goals through a combination of ruthless pressing and clever passing. A hattrick from Ryan M was matched by one from Otto Y, while some great positional play from Alec R and strong tackling from Baxter M gave us a constant outlet. Overall, an impressive performance from the boys leading into the mid-year break.
3A Football – Cranbrook 2 defeated Newington Wyvern 0
The 3As today faced their toughest opponents yet in Newington Prep As. The boys were facing footballing friends and rivals today; the opening 3 minutes shook up our organisation and idea of how we wanted to play. Charlie W, Robert Z and Freddy F particularly played well from the back: our goal of scoring from goal kicks was the task of the season, culminating in this final test. Ultimately, our attacking gems showed us their abilities to make it 2-0, with Hugo L and Santiago D combining to run rings around the strong defenders. The cohort has a very bright future, and we look forward to seeing how far they can go.
3B Football – Cranbrook 6 defeated Newington Wyvern 0
A great performance from the 3Bs vs Newington at home. A real team effort from the team, trying to hold space and move the ball paid off with some good passing passages and great goals. Special mention goes out to “the boss” Oliver P for his passing play, composure, and team first attitude – he was a joy to watch. Other match highlights included Leo M dominating his wing and passing superbly and Sebastian R hitting top corner for a great goal and well-deserved boot polish.
3C Football – Cranbrook 3 defeated Mosman Prep 0
An energetic and dynamic performance from the 3C team in a great contest. The boys tried hard to hold their shape and were rewarded for their efforts with a well-deserved win. Special mention must be made of Gus T who was immense at the centre of defence and did well with his discipline and distribution. Mason P was also superb with his tackling, composure and passing, an excellent performance. Overall, the boys can be happy with their efforts in a deserved victory.
3D Football – Cranbrook 2 defeated Newington Wyvern 0
The Year 3 Ds displayed a hard-fought effort against a tough Newington side today with the boys grabbing a 2-0 win at the end of the day. Goals came courtesy of Ziggy S, who clinched one in the first half and his second in the latter half of the match. Other notable players include Oscar M and Jai H, who both worked their socks off today in both defence and attack.

Winter Tennis
Cranbrook 37 defeated Grammar St Ives 31
The boys put in a great team effort this week against Grammar St Ives. With all coaches away, due to illness, Peter M and Jansen J stepped up and offered the team some coaching tips. Motivating players as the games progressed. Grammar St Ives played strong doubles games. However, Cranbrook came back to win overall with strong singles games.
Winter Multi-Sports
The boys continued to progress and develop their throwing/dodging technique. They finished the session with a game of ‘Dodgeball Towers’ with a close win for the Red team. The multi-sporters were able to discuss tactics and strategies when using different types of equipment during the Dodgeball Towers game. Superb resilience was shown by both Henry M and Julian R throughout the game.
