Little League Summer Sport Reports Round 11

Dear students, parents, and supporters,

Congratulations to all our Cranbrook Junior School athletes for successfully completing the 2023 Saturday sports season! Throughout the year, we have witnessed excellent progress and development in all students, both individually and as part of their respective teams. The commitment to improvement, displayed across all sports has been commendable. We are proud of the sense of camaraderie and respect which has led to a positive sports culture in the Junior School. A big thank you to our coaching staff for their dedication. We look forward to the 2024 season and wish our year 6 boys the best of luck in their future sporting endeavours.

Basketball

Basketball Year 5/6 As

In a hard-fought match, Cranbrook As experienced a challenging loss against Barker with a scoreline of 56-36. Despite the result, the team displayed admirable determination and game sense, effectively breaking down Barker’s full-court press. Rahul W emerged as the top scorer with 10 points, showcasing individual excellence. Looking ahead, the As are poised to be a formidable team in the coming years, given their unwavering hard work and determination throughout the season.

Basketball Year 5/6 Bs

On a triumphant note, the Bs concluded the second half of their season undefeated, securing a robust victory against Barker with a score of 39-25. Aiden M and Harry R, both top scored with 9 points each, leading the team to victory. Sam S, Charlie R, and Ollie H contributed significantly off the bench, highlighting the team’s impressive teamwork and defensive prowess. The Bs’ exceptional season reflects their collective effort and commitment to success.

Basketball Year 5/6 Cs

The 5/6 Cs faced Barker in a spirited contest, emerging victorious with a scoreline of 28-12. Spike T shone as the top point scorer with a remarkable 10 points, demonstrating intelligent and controlled basketball skills. The win underscored a true display of teamwork and strategic basketball, setting a positive tone for the team.

Basketball Year 5/6 Ds

The 5/6 Ds delivered an outstanding performance against Barker, securing a convincing 36-16 win. Kaspar B led the team with 12 points, showcasing adept offensive skills and precise layups. The entire team contributed to this resounding success, highlighting their collective prowess on the court.

Basketball Year 5/6 Es

The 5/6 Es faced Barker with unwavering focus and determination, resulting in a 36-28 victory. Elvis L and Ziggy D both contributed 10 points each, demonstrating exceptional shooting and scoring abilities. Hugo L’s all-around performance significantly impacted the game, solidifying the team’s dominant win.

Basketball Year 5/6 Fs

In a closely contested match, the 5/6 Fs displayed tremendous effort against Barker but faced a narrow loss with a scoreline of 18-14. Hugo S emerged as the top point scorer, showcasing determination and skill. Despite the loss, the boys put forth a valiant effort, with Hugo S excelling offensively and Carter M making notable contributions on the defensive end.

Basketball Year 5/6 Gs

The 5/6 Gs had a spectacular game against Barker, securing a convincing 28-14 win. Lachy C led the team with 10 points, showcasing incredible shooting skills. The entire team, including Danesh M, Tomek O, and Lachlan S, exhibited outstanding defensive efforts, stealing the ball and dominating the game.

Basketball Year 5/6 Hs

The  5/6 Hs exhibited strength and determination, securing a hard-fought 14-12 win against Barker. Felix S emerged as the top scorer with 6 points, demonstrating sharpshooting skills. Kyran D and Jacob K played pivotal roles defensively, grabbing rebounds and contributing to the team’s success. The boys’ collective effort and determination were key to securing the victory.

Basketball Year 3/4 As

In a decisive victory, the 3/4 As triumphed against Barker A with a score of 29-15, led by top point scorer Gus T with 8 points. Santiago D showcased exceptional skills, particularly in defence, and his athleticism stood out with impressive steals. Well done to the As on an impressive season.

Basketball Year 3/4 Bs

The 3/4 Bs secured a commanding win against Barker B with a score of 42-10, where Kaiden S dominated as the top point scorer with 12 points. Henry W delivered an outstanding performance displaying his decision-making prowess and elite understanding of the game. His ability to choose between passing and taking the shot after a rebound demonstrated his basketball IQ.

Basketball Year 3/4 Cs

Facing Grammar, the 3/4 Cs experienced a loss with a score of 6-28, and Oliver S emerged as the top point scorer. Despite the defeat, Harvey H displayed a strong presence in the paint and demonstrated good game sense on offense.

Basketball Year 3/4 Ds

The 3/4 Ds celebrated a victory against Barker with a score of 12-29, featuring a trio of top point scorers – Col O, Mason P, and Liam S, each contributing 6 points. Aidan P was recognized for his outstanding hustle and defensive efforts.

Basketball Year 3/4 Blue 1

Basketball 3/4 Blue 1 secured a win against Barker with a score of 14-24, with Sammy I, Thomas C, and Hugo C all contributing 4 points each. Aiden G received praise for his great hustle and defensive contributions.

Basketball Year 3/4 Blue 2

In an emphatic victory against Grammar, Basketball 3/4 Blue 2 showcased an outstanding performance with a commanding win of 38-0. Alfie L-B emerged as the top point scorer, contributing significantly to the team’s success. Notably, the game highlighted the collective improvement of all team members, emphasizing their commitment to enhancing their skills and teamwork. Each player demonstrated growth in their abilities, making crucial contributions on both ends of the court.

Basketball Year 3/4 White 1

Despite a loss against Kincoppal Rose Bay with a score of 26-6, White 1 had Remi G, Evan H, and Hamish F as the top point scorers. Blake S-W and Nathan S-W exhibited solid defence, while Michael L’s tenacity was notable.

Basketball Year 3/4 White 2

Basketball 3/4 White 2 secured a win against Barker with a score of 4-9, where Albert L emerged as the top point scorer with 6 points. James A’s outstanding defending, particularly in marking the free player, was highlighted as a key contribution to the victory.

Cricket

Cricket 6 As

The 6A faced Shore and secured a win with 2/104 in 16.2 overs against Shore’s 5/103 in 18 overs. Emile G’s composed 35*. Notable performances from Alexander M, Arthur D, and Charlie R, each securing a wicket, were key to Cranbrook’s success.

Cricket 6Bs

Cricket 6B registered a win against Shore with a scoreline of 5/101 in 18 overs against 6/89 in 18 overs. Jackson P’s 22* and Alistair T’s 2/8 were standout performances, with Steven H’s crucial 21* and five boundaries contributing significantly to the defendable total.

Cricket 5As

Cricket 5A secured a dominant win against St Pats, with a scoreline of 230-60. James C excelled in both fielding and batting, while Will W and Xavier M jointly led in runs with 38 each, and Oscar L stood out as the most successful bowler.

Cricket 5Bs

In a compelling match against St Pats, the 5B emerged victorious with 2/134 against 10/85. Henry C-S demonstrated an outstanding all-round performance, taking 4/7 off 3 overs and contributing 15 runs off 12 balls.

Cricket 4As

In a competitive match against Shore, the 4A emerged victorious with Shore scoring 10/88 and Cranbrook reaching 3/141. Sebastian R’s exceptional performance, scoring 31 runs and taking 3/7 off 2 overs, contributed significantly to the win. Freddie F’s three run-outs, Alexander R’s cover drive, Julian D’s leg spin, and Jasper M’s fielding brilliance added to the team’s success.

Cricket 4Bs

Despite a loss against Grammar Edgecliff, the 4B showcased commendable efforts with 5/41 for Cranbrook and 3/39 for Grammar. Jack L’s 11 runs and the all-round contributions of Zac B, Hadley S, and Lucas Si, each with a wicket, demonstrated the team’s resilience.

Cricket 3As

In a stellar performance, the 3A faced The Kings School and emerged victorious with Cranbrook scoring 175, defeating Kings at 127. Harry P showcased his devastating batting skills, contributing 31 runs from just 10 balls. The final partnership between Lachie E and Harry N, worth 59 runs, further solidified Cranbrook’s triumph.

Cricket 3Bs

The 3B secured a win against Kings with a score of 5/92 for Cranbrook and 8/48 for Kings. Imanol P emerged as the top performer with 23 runs and 1/7, while Otto H’s contribution with 2/7 was noteworthy.

Cricket 3Cs

Facing Kings, the 3C claimed victory, with Beckett C’s impressive performance of 16 runs standing out. The team displayed significant improvement in both batting and bowling, losing only two wickets on their way to victory.

Multi-Sports

Congratulations to all the boys in the summer multi-sports squad. It has been a pleasure and incredible joy to have worked with you this year. There was noticeable improvement in skills, confidence, and participation. Sport is meant to be enjoyed and this group of lads exhibited that on a weekly basis.

Tennis

Tennis Bs

In a hard-fought match, the Tennis A team experienced a setback with a score of 23-45. Despite the loss, it’s noteworthy to highlight the remarkable improvement exhibited by all players during the second half of the season. Each member of the team has shown dedication and a commendable work ethic, contributing to their overall growth and development on the tennis court. Their progress is a testament to their commitment to enhancing their skills and working collaboratively to strengthen the team’s performance.

Tennis Cs

In a triumphant display, the Cs clinched a decisive victory against Waverley, winning 11-1 in matches and dominating with a score of 58-10 in games. The team witnessed a remarkable collective effort, with five students—George Y, Joshua L, Rory M, Hugo C-B, and Jansen J—delivering stellar performances by winning both doubles and singles with scores of 6-1 and 5-0.

The final round of matches against Waverley showcased not only the athletic prowess of Cranbrook students but also their exceptional sportsmanship on the courts. Harvey C received commendation from the opposition’s coach for his outstanding line calls and score tracking, culminating in a well-deserved 3-2 victory. Jansen J, in his last junior school tennis game, emerged as a leader and mentor, winning graciously with a score of 5-0. His departure was marked by a touching moment as his classmates formed a tunnel, expressing the admiration and respect they hold for him. This final game of the year served as a testament to the exemplary Cranbrookians these students have become under the school’s guidance.

Tennis Development

The top performer of the day was James B, who not only showcased impressive skills but also demonstrated a resilient fighting spirit, earning him the win in the final round of the development tournament. James B’s outstanding performance reflects his dedication and determination on the tennis court, and his victory is a testament to his hard work. Congratulations to James B for this well-deserved achievement!

Water Polo

Despite the loss to Waverley with a score of 19-3, the water polo team showcased tremendous improvement and unwavering dedication to the program. The students have worked tirelessly, both in and out of the pool, refining their skills and enhancing their understanding of the game. Their commitment is evident not only in the scores but also in the resilience and sportsmanship displayed, marking a significant journey of growth and development for each team member.

Sailing

Jonathan C’s outstanding leadership and dedication to the sailing program have been a driving force behind the team’s success, setting a high standard for everyone. His commitment has not only led to victories but has also inspired significant improvement across the entire team. Under his guidance, each team member has shown remarkable progress, both in skills and teamwork, making the sailing program stronger and more cohesive than ever.
