Basketball Round 12

Basketball Year 5/6 As – Cranbrook 60 defeated Kings 28

Last Saturday, our A Team had a great victory against The Kings school. The A team showed maturity and excellent communication between players. Andre M scored a substantial number of points in the first half, helped by Tyson B. Charlie R was unstoppable on his layups. A fantastic way to finish the summer Basketball season.

Basketball Year 5/6 Bs – Cranbrook 24 defeated Kings 13

The Bs Team brough home a win on our last game for the season against The Kings School in their home court. These players showed fast, effective passes, which resulted on more approaches to the board. Even though The Kings defence game was strong, Cranbrook persevere and finished off the summer basketball season with a victory.

Basketball Year 5/6 Cs – Cranbrook 29 defeated Kings 25

This weekend, it was a tight competition against The Kings players. Rahul W was the absolute star of the day, scoring the most points for Cranbrook. The Kings defence game was strong, but it could not stop our tallest attackers. Another win for Cranbrook to finish off a very exciting Basketball season.

Basketball Year 5/6 Ds – Cranbrook 37 defeated King 14

The Ds displayed a great attacking game on Saturday in Kings School. Our boys passed the ball efficiently and always looked after it, not allowing the Kings players to come too close to it. The Ds showed in this game how much they have grown as a team since the beginning of the season. The result was a comfortable 37 to 14, a great score to finish off the summer basketball season.

Basketball Year 5/6 Es – Cranbrook 70 defeated Kings 12

The Cranbrook Es played another gutsy game of basketball on Saturday morning against Kings. Although the boys spent the game in the lead, it was pleasing to see them to continue to put in 100% effort until the final siren. The boys picked ran with their high energy and went on a large scoring run that was led by Harry R. A special mention to Finn D and Loic A, who had a standout performance as they showcased their offensive abilities. It was an outstanding game to watch as the Cranbrook Es dominated in all aspects of the game and continue to do this each week. Congratulations on a great season!

Basketball Year 5/6 Fs – Cranbrook 36 defeated Kings 8

Cranbrook Fs played great home game against Kings. Jack B once against showed his defensive ability and helped to lock down Kings and scored multiple times to help Cranbrook walk away with the win. Eamonn R and Will P helped on both ends of the court to keep Kings at 8 points. With the energy of this strong team, it was hard for Kings to score and allowed Cranbrook to maintain their winning ways. The Cranbrook F’s have had an unbeatable season and can walk away feeling proud of their efforts.

Basketball Year 5/6 Gs – Cranbrook 45 defeated Kings 5

The Cranbrook Gs arrived at Kings on Saturday ready to play. It was evident from the start that the boys were in a league of their own as they took an early lead and kept on building on it. Michael M and Michael I showcased their shooting skills throughout the whole game, putting Cranbrook in the lead. Tesak and Hugo’s defence helped Cranbrook maintain a strong lead and helped to move the ball around the court. The boys showed great sportsmanship and respect toward the other team. It has been such a great season for the Gs and we look forward to seeing what next year has in store for them.

Basketball Year 5/6 Hs – Cranbrook 20 defeated Kings 8

The Cranbrook Hs rocked up on Saturday looking for a win against Kings. All boys showcased their abilities, as it was evident that Cranbrook wanted the win. A special mention to Max C and Leo MW who dominated in the defence. Zac G show pride with his shooting skills and put us quite far ahead of Kings. With little substations throughout the game, it was pleasing to see all boys put in 100% effort until the final siren. The Hs have had an outstanding season and should be proud of their efforts this year.

Basketball Year 3/4 As – Cranbrook defeated the Parents

Starting the game with the Bs result in mind, the A’s looked to put pressure on an experienced team full of their parents and other family members.  Despite the early lead the parents jumped out to, the A’s rallied back into it with some key steals and easy layups on the other end.  Although the game was very friendly with lots of laughs there were also moments of competitive fire between both teams.  As expected, the parents gassed out in the second half and the As became too much with their nonstop efforts on both ends.  Saturday’s game was a lot of fun, and it was very enjoyable to see the efforts that were displayed. 

Basketball Year 3/4 Bs – Cranbrook 33 defeated by the Parents 36

The boys came prepared and were ready to face their parents on the court on Saturday. The game started in the parents favour with Jacob’s father scoring lots of fast, break layups. After the boys went down by a considerable margin, the coach subbed himself in for the boys and brought the score back to even at halftime. Special mention must go to Rhidian S and Santiago D for their outstanding defence and offence.

Basketball Year 3/4 Cs – Cranbrook 12 defeated by Newington 42

Cranbrook seemed to arrive at the game rather startled by the oppositions size. However, they didn’t let that stop them and played a solid game of basketball. Unfortunately, the game quickly got away from us, with Newington scoring almost every time down the court. After learning that we were versing the Newington A’s, the boys were temporarily disgruntled, but later showed determination to finish out the game with pride. Special mention to Hugo S and Xavier L for a great game.

Basketball Year 3/4 Ds – Cranbrook 8 defeated by Newington 12

Cranbrook Ds were ready to go from the moment the game started against Newington on Saturday. It was a low scoring first half with both teams only scoring 4 points each. In the second half, the boys sadly let the game slip away, allowing Newington to score some easy baskets. Although the boys lost, special mention must go to Henry H and Sam S for outstanding defence throughout the whole match.

Basketball Year 3/4 White 1 – Cranbrook 16 defeated Newington Wyvern 8

The Year 3/4 White 1 showed everything they have learnt over the past term to gain a win over Newington, 16-8. Back to full strength this week, with Ben and Harvey returning, meant that we remained fresh throughout the game and continued to perform for the full duration. Overall, a great season from all the boys, a pleasure to coach.

Basketball Year 3/4 White 2 – Cranbrook 42 defeated Newington Wyvern 8

A big win to finish off an unreal season for the Year 3/4 White 2, 42-8. Our focus for the game was teamwork, and that was in full display on the court as everyone played a part in a great win to finish the season. 

Basketball Year 3/4 Blue 1 – Cranbrook 11 defeated by Newington Wyvern 15

A nail-biting game to finish the season, with the Blue 1 going down to Newington 15-11. A slow start led to Newington gaining an early advantage, but that didn’t stop the likes of Henry Wilson and Tom Scales as they forged a comeback. The boys should hold their head high as they managed to only lose one game this season. 

Basketball Year 3/4 Blue 2 – Cranbrook 4 defeated by Newington Wyvern 26

A tough loss to end an excellent season for Blue 2, 26-4. A few key lessons were learnt today in keeping our head up when we start slow and to accept referee decisions. Although, the boys remained competitive up until the final whistle and played some very tough basketball. Oliver S and William S put their body on the line in every play and showed some great desperation in defence.

Cricket Round 12

Year 6A Cricket – Cranbrook defeated by Trinity

This marks the last game for the year 6A cricket team in their junior school career. Bowling first, some very consistent and economical bowling was seen throughout the innings, wickets were hard to come by, with numerous Trinity batsmen retiring not out. This led to Trinity setting a target of 128 runs. 

As keen as ever to bat, it was unfortunate to see a wicket fall on the first ball of the Cranbrook batting innings to a great catch at fine leg. However, the partnership that followed, featuring Fin B and Jake F put Cranbrook right on top, with Fin B eventually retiring 18*. Fantastic running and stroke play was a feature of the Cranbrook innings, with Johnny scoring an outstanding 38*, and Rahul L getting ever so close to retiring. 

Unfortunately, the boys were unable to finish this game the way they’d like, with the final wicket falling in the last over, just 14 runs behind the set target.

Year 6B Cricket – Cranbrook defeated by Trinity

They say all good things must come to an end. The weekend marked the end of the boys’ junior school cricket journeys, and it could not have come to a more dramatic finish. With the ball the lads bowled spectacularly to a classy trinity line up with Andrew Mr Consistent taking two wickets as well as taking a fantastic catch in the outfield. With a big total to chase the game was ebbing and flowing with many momentum shifts. Ethan M, Fred E and Charlie W all combined for valuable runs taking the game all the way to the final over needing 4 off the last ball to win. Unfortunately, the cricketing gods had other ideas in mind, ending the Cranbrook season in cruel fashion. Regardless of the result on Saturday the growth of this side throughout the summer has been commendable. They are a fantastic group of young men who have been a pleasure to work with. I wish them all the best with their cricketing future and have no doubt that we will see big things come from these young lads in years to come. Onto the next. 

Year 5A Cricket – Cranbrook 140 defeated Newington 83

The 5As played away at Newington on the weekend in their final game of the year. A brilliant display saw them total 140. George A and Emile G scoring high totals. The boys improved significantly on their running between the wickets and communication with each other, making it easier to score quick singles. The fielding was just as good collecting 8 wickets and keeping them to 83 runs. Tommy A should be commended on the 5 wickets he got in his last game. Overall, a brilliant season for Year 5As. Looking forward to the next term in their development.

Year 5B Cricket – Cranbrook defeated Newington by 85 runs

The 5Bs had a resounding 85 run victory against Newington. After losing the toss and been sent into bat, the 5B’s scored 131 runs with Zac S and Ishy S top scoring with 22 and 20 respectively. Cranbrook bowled and fielded sharply, with wickets to Jansen J and Patrick G, an assisted run out to Zac S and a direct hit from Pat G. The highlight was a team hattrick in the 13th over. It was a strong second half of the season and should keep them in a good stead going forward.

Year 5C Cricket – Cranbrook defeated Scots

6 weeks ago, the 5Cs were dealt a heavy defeat by a strong Scots team. This week, Cranbrook were to play Scot’s again at Christenson Park. Cranbrook lost the toss and were sent into bat by the Scots. Steven H and Louis C got the boys off to a steady start, with Steven making a classy 12 with two boundaries to open the account. Teddy C and Bondi M built upon Cranbrook’s solid base, with Teddy C cruising to a 12* and Bondi supporting him with very solid running between the wickets. Owen C and Ollie K were able to finish things off after some classy middle overs batting from Carter M and Henry W, scoring 8 each.

Cranbrook then proceeded to put on an absolute clinic in the field. Steven H began the innings with a maiden, then took two wickets in his last over. Louis C showed much improvement in his run up and bowling action this week – a testament to his hard work at training. Owen C and Henry W both took one a piece. The standout bowling performance today, however, was from our wicketkeeper, Teddy Cassidy. Teddy C has improved out of sight this year in his bowling, and his three wickets on Saturday are a reward for the extra hours he has been putting in. Cranbrook took 10 wickets in 16 overs, restricting Scot’s to just 12 runs and handing them a 42-run victory. The boys this year have improved out of sight. To think that just under two months ago they lost to this team is astonishing. Every single one of them should be extremely proud of their efforts and immense improvement over such a short time span. It has been an absolute pleasure to coach all of them this term, and I look forward to watching them build upon such a strong start to their cricketing careers into 2023.

Year 4A Cricket – Cranbrook 103 defeated 99 The King’s School

What a phenomenal day for the 4As, finishing off an incredible season in a brilliant fashion. Having the rare opportunity to play on turf and with a leather ball, the boys essentially got their first taste of ‘proper’ cricket for the school. Bowling first, Cranbrook faced tough opposition with the bat, who didn’t surrender easily. A big fourth wicket stand for King’s meant that Cranbrook were on the back foot for a large period, but a bowling attack led by Alastair M, who finished with figures of 3/7, was able to restrict King’s to 100. 

With bat in hand, Oscar R led the way, with a phenomenal 48*, and a beautiful supporting innings of Oliver F with 22 was enough to get the boys home, winning by 4 wickets. It was a pleasure to watch the season finish in such style, showing some great progress over the year which will doubtless continue in 2023. Well done boys.

Year 4Blue Cricket – Cranbrook 4Blue 104 defeated 95 Newington Lindfield

The Final game of the season and Cranbrook were ready to put in a great performance. Cranbrook won the toss and elected to bat first, Tomek O and Felix C were the first pair of the crease and got Cranbrook off to a flier posting 24 runs in the first 3 overs, this patten was continue by Alec R and Austin M with great running between the wickets and power hit really punishing Newington’s bowling attack, the third pair was Tomek O and Angus D the boys had some great running and great shot selections when at the crease keeping the scoreboard moving along, Joseph L and Henry C-S were the last pair to the crease they showed great ability to take control of the game in the last few overs and put more runs on the board. It was now Cranbrook’s turn to bowl; Joseph L opened the bowling and picked a cracker wicket in his First ball. The Bowling and fielding effort was great to watch as the boys looked to dominate and really apply the pressure onto Newington, wickets went to Joseph L 1, Austin M 1, Alec R 1 and Tomek O 1. It was a great way to top off the season with a victory and an undefeated season which is a great achievement. Cranbrook 4Blues had a great season and had some fun along the way. Boys, if you are reading this or your parents are reading then make sure you thank your parents for the time and effort they put into your Saturdays over the last 5 weeks in driving you to the games and watching it every week. Finally, congratulations on a great season and have a safe Christmas and New Year, looking forward to seeing you young men develop in the great game of cricket.

Year 4Red Cricket – Cranbrook 103 defeated by 148 Newington Lindfield

The Final game of the season and Cranbrook were ready to put in a great performance. Cranbrook won the toss and put Newington into bat. A 4A player to help 4Red team, Kaspar B opened the bowling steaming in was very unlucky to not pick up a wicket, Cranbrook bowled well picking up four wickets in the 12 overs. Wickets went to Rembrandt T 1, Alec R 1, George Y 1 and Henry C-S 1. Cranbrook were able to restrict Newington to 93 runs (before bonus runs) this was a promising sign. Cranbrook first pair to the crease was Rembrandt T and Charlie H the boys were able to put the bad ball to the boundary and take their chances, the next pair was Jack E and Henry C-S once again the boys showed promising ability to put the bad ball away and keep the scoreboard ticketing over, Alec R and Tomek O was our next pair the boys got off to a great start hitting 2 boundaries in the first two balls and they kept the runs ticketing along, Our final pair Kaspar B and George Y came in and instantly took control of the game and really showed the rest of the team on how to value their wicket and score runs as well. Overall, it was a great game and the difference between the two times was minimal. Cranbrook 4Reds had a great season and had some fun along the way. Year 3A Master Blasters – Cranbrook 148 defeated Grammar Edgecliff 70

The Cranbrook 3As played excellently against Grammar Edgecliff. The boys batted first and put on a strong display with special mentions going to Will W with 30*. The bowling display was awesome with everyone contributing to a wicket or two. Special mention also goes to James C with a screamer of a catch as wicket keeper. Well done boys.

Year 3B Master Blasters – Cranbrook 183 defeated Newington Lindfield 97

The Cranbrook 3Bs won the toss and elected to bowl. They restricted Newington’s scoring early on with some tight bowling. The pick of the bowlers was Freddie F with impressive figures of 2-2 off 2 overs as well as Joseph R’s figures of 0-7 and Leo M’s figures of 1-21. Some runouts totalled the wickets to five and this was able to make the run chase easier with 92 runs the target. Runs were shared between all of the batsman. Leo M and Oliver D’s straight shot selections allowed each scored run to be doubled. Cranbrook were victors reaching the 97-run target. A great way to end the season.

Year 3C Master Blasters – Cranbrook 122 defeated by Grammar Edgecliff 123

The Cranbrook 3Cs played a good game this week but came up short against a strong Grammar Edgecliff side, losing out by one point. It’s been a great season for this team with just the one loss at the end of the season.

Tennis Round 12

Tennis As – Cranbrook 41 defeated Riverview 27

An early morning trip out to Riverview was the order for the final prep tennis fixture in 2022.

After the boys shook off the tiredness they went about their work in a truly professional style.

All games were played in great spirit where competitiveness and sportsmanship were on display in equal remounts. Although very hard to separate any boy out of the team, Lachlan Berger received the player of the day award due to his hard work and commitment throughout

Really well done to all involved and congrats to Riverview on the hard-fought victory.

Tennis Cs – Cranbrook 29 defeated Redlands 22

The C team showed great enthusiasm and sportsmanship during their matches against Redlands. The teams were evenly matched with close matches in both the singles and the doubles. Saxon F had a strong serving game and well-placed shots. The matches were enjoyable to watch as the students played with positivity and good humour from both teams

Tennis Development

Last session of the year was ended with a game of Davis Cup for our wonderful Development Group. The boys quickly did a warm-up and prepared themselves to play their final matches. The singles/doubles were closely contested with a special mention to Shai L and Henry R for winning most of their games. 

Congratulations to the boys for attending our sessions and achieving wonderful development and progress throughout the season!

Multi-Sports

Our final day of Term 4 Summer Multi-Sport was completed through an end game of ‘Big Bucket Ball’ with Oz tag belts. Throughout the week, the boys have been able to demonstrate and explore the use of strategies/tactics within a game setting. They were also able to explain the importance of roles within a team. Superb strategic thinking from Harrison R and Benjamin Z which assisted their teams in scoring/defending points. We said goodbye to some exceptional multi-sporters due to moving on up to the senior school – Good luck boys! (Harrison R, Lucas Z, and Harry D). Big thank-you to all the boys and their parents, it has been a pleasure to run Multi-Sport this term.

Sailing

We had a wonderful last week out on the water. The boys used the skills they have gained to play some fun games as a reward for their hard work this season. They showcased their tacking skills and ability to set their sails to the correct wind direction. It was wonderful to end the sailing season on a high note with the boys showing great teamwork and determination.
