Little League Summer Sport Reports Round 9

Basketball Round 9

Basketball Year 5/6 As – Cranbrook 54 defeated Newington Wyvern 36

Once again Cranbrook saw themselves matched up against a much taller opposition on the weekend. However, this had little impact on the end result, as Cranbrook displayed their superior skill to win comfortably. The effort that the team is putting in at training, was evident. Strong man to man defence resulted in easy baskets for Cranbrook. Will H had his best game for Cranbrook scoring 10 points with some sharp shooting. Alfie T and Marco F also provided some nice looks on offense. However, the highlight of the game was the efforts that Charlie R and Tyson B showed on defence, resulting in easy fast break layups for their team mates. Well done to the As on another outstanding performance.

Basketball Year 5/6 Bs – Cranbrook 27 defeated by Newington Wyvern 28

The Bs had another loss on the weekend, however, did not go down without a fight. The teams effort was a step in the right direction, and a win isn’t too far away. Will A, Alex S and Vinnie B showed great effort on the defensive end, rebounding well. Huw S had a solid performance, showing great composure on attack. Once again Oscar R and Van G controlled the tempo of the game well. Andre M and James R were everywhere and contributed positively to the energy of the game. The Bs will be training hard this week, focusing on getting a win against Trinity on Saturday.

Basketball Year 5/6 Cs – Cranbrook 15 drew with Newington Wyvern 15

The 5Cs had a thrilling game against Newington on Saturday. A close game throughout every minute of it. The result: 15-15 had everyone watching on the edge of their seats. The boys had a tough time scoring against the Newington defence, but Rahul W, Logan H, Darcy W, and the Eddie’s F managed to keep us in the game. Our defence was not to be taken lightly, making it difficult for the opposition to score. Jake C’s steals and Lachlan R-W’s blocks helped us level out the result in the end.

Basketball Year 5/6 Ds – Cranbrook 26 defeated by Newington 37

The 5Ds Team began to find their groove against a strong Newington team, after a slight adjustment to our team composition. Unfortunately, the boys suffered a tough 37-26 loss. Aidan M and Sam F were strong throughout the game on both the offensive and defensive end; our cornerstones, some would say. Jimmy D and Seb K had the tough duty of defending Newington’s centre, but they did so with gusto no backing down from his taunts but saying showing what they are made of. Huge efforts were made by Heath C-G on both ends of the courts: diving in the floor, hustling for the ball, and then sprinting to the other end to finish off with a layup. Charlie R was the man to give the ball to scoring from everywhere becoming a big problem for the defence.

Basketball Year 5/6 Es – Cranbrook 23 defeated Newington 3

The 5/6Es began this game with a strong intent to dominate. However, amidst the defensively dominant Newington side, they struggled to get into a rhythm on the offensive end. As a result, the first half was slow, ending with a score of 6-2. After taking some deep breaths at half time and re-focusing on their objective, they went into the second half on fire, being led by the offensive threats of David B and Loic, as well as Hugh, Cranbrook’s defensive powerhouse. The second half was fast paced, with the boy’s scoring basket after basket, whilst also displaying strong defensive pressure, evident in the 1 point scored by Newington in this second half. The final score of the game was 23-3, a dominant performance from the 5/6Es

Basketball Year 5/6 Fs – Cranbrook 24 defeated Newington Wyvern 10

This match was riveting. The 5/6 Fs started off well, coming in strong with 4 quick points at the beginning of the game. However, the Newington side began to show their dominance on the offensive and defensive ends, outscoring us and limiting our space creation and shot making ability. This lead to the Cranbrook boys being down 6-10 at half time. Coming back in to the second half, led by Jack and Rocco, the boys evidently set aside the previous half’s emotions with their ability to rip through the strong Newington defence, and score efficiently on the offensive end. The final score of this game was 24-10, where dedication and perseverance were the clear catalysts of their victory.

Basketball Year 5/6 Gs – Cranbrook 28 defeated Newington 18

The Gs had a great start to their game scoring a quick 6 points in the opening minutes of the first half. They kept this intensity throughout the remainder of the half, finishing the half with a substantial lead on the Newington side with a score of 12-6. In the second half, the boys stepped it up even further, continuing to impress on both the offensive and defensive end. A clear man of the match in this game was Michael I who demonstrated his scoring efficiency with 16 points, followed up with his clear leadership and team lifting abilities. Cranbrook’s teamwork in this game was unmatched by Newington, evident in the final score of 28-18, a huge win for Cranbrook

Basketball Year 5/6 Hs – Cranbrook 19 defeated Newington 6

It was a great day for the 5/6Hs with all the boys in high spirits ready to take on the Newington side. Cranbrook came out strong scoring 11 points in the first half with Curtis M and Zayen S being stand out performers on the offensive end, looking to pass before they shot whilst also taking great shots when necessary. In the second half, being led by Jack D, they kept their high scoring pace whilst also playing great team defence, evident in their high steal count, and their 8 points scored in this half. The H’s played a great game and secured 19-6 win for Cranbrook.

Basketball Year 3/4 As – Cranbrook 44 defeated Kings 9

The 3/4 As played to their potential last Saturday in the away game against Kings. They scored a whopping 44 points displaying great team efforts from each player.  From some tremendous passing highlights to some strong hustle on the other end, the boys were locked in, and it was evident from the very beginning.  The boys also showed great sportsmanship which is something to be proud of.

Basketball Year 3/4 Bs – Cranbrook 42 defeated Kings 4

The Year 3/4 Bs continued their streak of dominant wins with a gutsy performance at the Kings School.  All the hard work at training, especially the previous week reflected not only the result but the performance of the boys with their individual skills.  Their heads were up dribbling, they were communicative, and they were extremely disciplined on defence.  The Bs also welcomed back Louie B who was a great addition to the squad.

Basketball Year 3/4 Cs – Cranbrook 20 defeated Kings 0

The year 3/4 Cs were on a mission as they begun the first game out at Kings.  Their efforts were clear right from the get-go as Leo R set up lots of easy wide-open shots as well as led the boys with some great rebounding.  Their passing, shooting and communication was outstanding and there were clear improvements in attitude and sportsmanship which was great to see!  The boys look to work on keeping their heads up while dribbling and moving without the ball.

Basketball Year 3/4 Ds – Cranbrook 10 defeated by Kings 13

Despite the defeat, the Year 3/4 Ds played an extremely tough game against a Kings team that was very well drilled.  The boys should be proud of their efforts, and their first half was a nail biter!  In an almost even affair, Samuel S shined bright and was key in lifting the spirits of his team.  When engaged, this Ds team has unlimited potential!

Basketball Year 3/4 White 1 – Cranbrook 52 defeated Kings 0

A big score line of 52-0, with Cranbrook dominating all aspects of the game. All the boys scored numerous baskets and were relentless on defence.

Basketball Year 3/4 White 2 – Internal

Despite not having a game against an opposition this week, the boys played each other in some half court 3 v 3 games. They all gave it a great effort and will be ready to take on next week’s game.

Basketball Year 3/4 Blue 1 – Cranbrook 42 defeated Kings 4

A 42-4 win for the Cranbrook Blue 1’s against Kings. Oliver P, Sung H and Marcus K combined for a whopping 26 points, relentlessly shooting and scoring. However, this would not have been possible without Tom S offensive rebounding dominance and George Y never-ending energy. Meanwhile, Charlie W brought numerous strategic recommendations to the team and Tully S scored a couple baskets of his own, carrying forward the mighty Blue 1s’ momentum. Great win boys!

Basketball Year 3/4 Blue 2 – Cranbrook 56 defeated Kings 0

An unprecedented 56-0 win for the Cranbrook Blue 2’s against Kings. Both William S and Christian K scored 12 points, Bobby A and Oliver L scored 8 points and Oliver S scored 6 points. Wow! Scoring machines. Awesome job today. Let’s not forget about Kings’ 0 points. Let me repeat, 0 points. This is thanks to the mighty efforts of Kyran D, Mason P, Curtis M and Matthew AH who never gave up on a play, pouncing at the opposing team whenever they got the chance. Great win boys!

Cricket Round 9

Year 6A Cricket – Cranbrook defeated by Mosman

The 6As are close to Inking a deal with fox studios to stream all matches live after Saturday’s nail-biting clash with Mosman prep. With the bat the lads were incredible with Dylan D, Johnny Y and Hugo H all top scoring with class, power, and poise as they punished the bowlers to all corners. With the ball the lads were consistent with impressive efforts from debutant Xavier D and veteran Spencer R. The result unfortunately fell to Mosman in the cruellest of ways with a final ball 6 to win. It’s days like Saturday that make you question why you play this cruel game that is cricket however I have no doubt that the lessons learned with fuel the fire and the boys will bounce back better than ever. Onto the next.

Year 6B Cricket – Cranbrook defeated Mosman

The 6Bs match reports are starting to write themselves after what can only be described as an absolute thrashing at balmoral park. Clearly fired up by the ridiculous parking rates, the lads were on from the get-go with truly sensational bowling from Frightening Fred and Elusive Ethan who both took wickets at extremely economical rates. With the bat the story continued with multiple retirees all contributing to what was yet another truly dominating display of team cricket. This side is quickly announcing itself as a juggernaut of the Cranbrook cricket program and it’s hard to see anyone stopping them now. Onto the next.

Year 5A Cricket – Cranbrook 145 defeated Kings 122

The 5As produced a dominant performance this weekend against Kings to run out 23-run winners. The entire group should be commended for the way they took this challenge on, and the benefits could be seen in several run-saving and wicket-taking actions in the field as the boys were able to steadily build pressure on Kings in this fashion. Emile G’s bowling opened and closed the innings in consistent and damaging fashion, picking up 3/5 from his three overs. Alistair T and Charlie R both recovered well from some more difficult overs against quality batsmen to close their spells economically and effectively, while wickets were also shared amongst the attack including to Arthur D and Tom A. These two also hit some well-timed boundaries in the batting innings – Arthur D and Emmanuel H got the team off to a solid start against Kings’ best bowlers, before Emile G and George A took the game away from them. Jasper L’s consistent and inexpensive spell of leg spin was another highlight in what an impressive Cranbrook performance was. The team should continue to focus on its collective fielding effort to develop their leadership, teamwork, and cricketing knowledge, which will serve them well for the remainder of the season.

Year 5B Cricket – Cranbrook defeated Kings

The 5Bs had a good 28-run win on Saturday after being sent into bat. A solid foundation was laid by the top 4 scoring 28 runs to allow the middle order to tee off. Harry R, Ishy S and Patrick G scored 19, 18 and 15 respectively from their 12 balls. This gave us a solid total, requiring Kings too chase 112 to win. The 5B’s bowled and fielded well, with wickets going to Jackson P, Raffy S, Alex M and Ishy  S who took 2. Special mention too Ishy S and Jackson P who both got a direct hit run-out. It was another solid performance by the 5B’s, who’ll be looking to improve next week against Knox

Year 5C Cricket – Cranbrook 95 defeated Kings 55

After encouraging signs of improvement last week against Barker, the 5Cs sought to build upon this against Kings this week. Cranbrook lost the toss and were sent into field, in what turned to be an extremely encouraging all round bowling and fielding performance from the boys. Special mention to Owen C and Teddy H, who combined their quick decision making and sharp glove work for two run outs. Cranbrook was able to restrict Kings to a low total of 55 runs after 18 overs. The 5C’s continued their impressive form with an all-round strong performance with the bat. Top scorer was Owen C, who put on a boundary hitting clinic earlier in the innings, and Teddy H who steadied the ship throughout the middle overs. This week was a particularly strong performance for the boys, getting a 40-run victory which they hopefully will build upon for the upcoming fixtures.

Year 4A Cricket – Cranbrook 4A 80 defeated 36 Knox Grammar

The 4As had a brilliant victory this weekend, playing their best cricket yet this season. Batting first, Jack R and Hughie W played a magnificent opening partnership, with Jack R hitting huge sixes and Hughie W cleverly negotiating gaps to rotate the strike. The batting was solid and much improved on the week before, only conceding 3 wickets across the innings.

With ball in hand, we likewise thrived. Oscar L bowled consistent line and length and was rewarded, and in the field Xavier M combined with Alastair M behind the stumps for 2 runouts in 2 balls. An awesome display which shows the boys really took on board the loss last week and sought to improve. We look forward to seeing how the boys can continue their form into the end of the season.

Year 4Blue Cricket – Cranbrook 4Blue 142 defeated 101 Shore

Early start once again for the Cranbrook and the parents, being Cranbrook’s first home game Cranbrook would be very excited to get out on the field and get the win. Cranbrook bowled first with Otto Y taking 1 wicket, Tomek O taking 2 wickets, Felix C taking 1 wicket and a great all round team bowling effort. Joseph L and Austin M opened the batting for Cranbrook getting us off to a flier, posting 28 runs in their pair, while Otto Y and Tomek O were the next pair, and the boys were able to really take control of the game both with some great hitting down the ground. Continuing their excellent batting run, George F and Felix C continued to push on with a great shot from George F off his 3rd ball for Four runs, Angus D and Joseph L were our last pair. The boys sealed the game for Cranbrook and with a great win. Cranbrook showed great sportsmanship leading Shore 2 fields during their bowling innings. Cranbrook 4Blue remained undefeated for the term looking to push on next weekend. Overall, it was a great performance from the boys in their 3rd game of Term 4.

Year 4Red Cricket – Cranbrook 4Red 70 defeated by 124 Shore

The 4Red Master Blasters played at home on Woollahra 2/3 against Shore and as Shore only had 5 players instead of 6, we had to field with 5 players. Cranbrook bowled first, we conceded to many runs as result of bowling short and bowling too many extras. But the pick of the bowlers was Jack E claiming two wickets in his last over finishing with figures of 2-11 of two overs. We didn’t get off to the greatest of start with a couple of runouts and wickets falling early. Charlie H top scored in the middle of the game smashing four 4’s to end with 16 runs. Unfortunately, this wasn’t enough for the 4Red Master Blasters get Shore’s target. The game ended with the score Shore with 124 defeating Cranbrook’s 70 runs.

Year 3A Master Blasters – Cranbrook defeated Barker

The boys arrived at Barker keen to keep their winning streak alive. Batting first the boys put together a mammoth total of 213-4 off our 14 overs. The highlight of our innings was Will W who hit one over for a maximum 36 runs in an impressive show of hitting. The boys then cleaned up the Barker side for 100 as we ran away with a big win.

Year 3B Master Blasters – Cranbrook defeated St Aloysius

The Year 3Bs continued their fine form with another win. The boys were great both sides of the ball and ran out convincing winners. Hopefully more of the same next week. The standout was the boys bowling with some great show of skills when needed.

Year 3C Master Blasters – Cranbrook defeated Barker

Batting first the boys got off to a great start putting away the bad balls and looking to play straight. We finished up on 150 after our 12 overs thanks to a big team effort with highlights coming from some big hits by Jerry. We then took to the field bowling full and straight and managed to hold Baker to a score of just 50 to see another clean sweep for the Year 3s. Congrats boys well done!

Tennis Round 9

Tennis As – Cranbrook defeated Redlands

The team enjoyed their first home fixture this weekend with some fantastic games against Redlands leading to a great morning of tennis. With plenty of close games it was a great achievement to win against this tough opposition. Charles T. and Willem M triumphed in their doubles and consistently modelled clear communication on court.  Lucas T. and Alexander T. displayed fantastic consistency in their singles with some superb rallies which were a joy to watch for all present. The students are excited to play against Scots this weekend in Round 10.

Tennis Cs – Cranbrook defeated by Newington Wyvern

The C Team enjoyed challenging matches against Newington on our home courts, making them work hard for the overall win. Oliver O played a challenging match with long rallies and well-placed shots. Great teamwork and strategic shots helped Ashton and Niko to win their doubles match. The team showed great skill and perseverance throughout the matches.

Multi-Sports

Throughout the week, the multi-sporters have continued to enhance their ability of striking. On Saturday, the boys were split into two teams (Red and Blue) to compete against each other in a game of Tee ball. The Red team demonstrated great determination with very high running scores which led them to victory. Notable mentions to fantastic strikes from James B and continued effort from Yanni.

Sailing

We had another fantastic day out on the water this week with great conditions. The boys took part in ‘The Box game’ this Saturday, where they practiced keeping control of the boat to stay within the square boundary markers. The boys focused on determining who has the right of way in different situations. Some of our boys from the race squad took part in the ACT Opti regatta down in Canberra with some great success. It is great to see the boys taking on feedback, challenging themselves, listening to coach’s instructions and helping others where they can.
