Year 8 Science Thermodome Sustainability STEM Project
Year 8 science students recently built innovative Thermodomes, inspired by Antarctic shelters designed to survive extreme cold. They analysed their builds by graphing heat results, then reflected on improvements for greater sustainability. Suggestions included extra insulation, solar panels, wind turbines, and better materials, as well as practical ideas like triple-glazed windows, insulated doors, thermal flooring, heat-retaining furniture, indoor green walls, and rainwater or snow collection systems.
This project showed how students could link science, engineering, and creativity to design smarter, greener homes for the future.
